Quite awhile back (before it snowed) I got to spend an afternoon with my cousin, his fiance and their two kiddies Kyler and Delainy, who I absolutely adore! Shaun and Lindsey have recently become engaged, and I, the lucky cousin, gets to photograph their very special day! I am so happy for the both of them and their beautiful little family!
If there is one addiction I have, it would be to popcorn. Not the microwave popcorn, but the old fashion pop-it-on-the-stove-in-a-pot-popcorn. I recall having an actual popcorn machine as a child, but like most things, we managed to break it. So mom taught us the old fashioned way...I moved up in the technology department this year when my brother bought me a space like looking unit that pops my popcorn for me, no shaking involved - no more destroying pots and stove tops...and it melts the butter onto it while popping. It gets a 10 out of 10!
So I am running a little behind, but I'm slowly catching up! Sorta. Here's some pics from Christmas at the Dirks residence...Britt's challenge of hanging mistletoe, christmas morning, and of course, another creation for mom to add to her yard. Trevor and Dad spent well over 40 hours days before Christmas to weld her up a bird house. Much like the bridge for mothers day, the house was extravagant. He bought himself a new plasma cutter, so the intricate details were quite amazing. He isn't done this masterpiece quite yet, but when it is done, it will be found in our yard of interesting creations.
Dad found a new home for mom's mirror...we decided it was a horrible spot dangling in the middle of the room.
I was just browsing through some photos from the summer - probably because I am really anticipating warm weather and no more wet ankles - stumbled upon this one...wasn't entirely sold on it at first until I printed it and framed it...now I like it.
January 19, 2009 - Update - Hi Everyone. Just a little update regarding wedding bookings for the summer of 2009. All spots that were available for summer 2009 have been filled (from June 20th - Sept 5th) and I am no longer taking bookings for this season. If you are inquiring about your own, a friend, or family member's wedding for 2010, Please contact me. Thanks so much! Amara
So now its time for me to catch up in the new year with last years weddings! You probably remember the engagement shoot that I had with these two before their wedding (click here)...well here are some of the photos I captured on their very special day! It was an incredibly fun wedding, definitely one of the most memorable of the summer. They came up with some awesome locations, props courtesy of Cycle Works where Alicia works, and the obvious, a fun energetic group to work with. Having a slight obsession with Fox Racing, you'll notice her 'something blue' patch on the inside of her dress a few photos down. It was given to her by Fox and had it sewn on (obviously not noticeable unless it was shown to you). She promised that even on her wedding day would she be wearing something Fox...and I didn't doubt her one bit! Thanks to the both of you - I had an awesome day!
My first winter wedding, and a beautiful one it was. Brian and Kim were married in Busby, a small town just west of where I live this past December. It was a whole new experience, and battling with the -32 degree weather that day was a challenge. Brian, Kim, and their entire bridal party were troopers and toughed out the cold as much as they possibly could (as did Jess and I). She kept her gorgeous smile on at all times and we managed to snap a few before we ran as fast as we could into the house for warmth. We were so fortunate to have a huge living room to set up the studio lights and do the family photos. Jess and I had a wonderful afternoon and want to thank both Kim and Brian for letting us be apart of their very special and intimate day.

About Me
Amara Dirks
It's not everyday someone can say they truly love what they do for a career, although I probably would have kept this as a 'hobby' I decided to take it and run with it as a career. After graduating from The Western Academy of Photography, I have set my heart, goals and the majority of my time to this. Based out of Edmonton and area, I have been so fortunate to photograph so many amazing people - may they keep calling! This blog is a little sneak into my life and what I do...there is no real rhyme or reason or any layout to what I post...my camera is with me all the time, and everything to me has its opportunity to be photographed...so ENJOY!
